Chapter 6 | A special edition

With our Original, Summer and Winter Foraged Gins under my belt, I knew we were really onto something. It seems that the Craft Gin Club had the same thought because they approached us about creating something bespoke.

It was the biggest compliment, and while creating a new seasonal variety isn’t a small task, I had lots of ideas from foraged finds that hadn’t made their way into the rest of the range.

After some deliberation, I decided to focus on crafting a gin that represented Cornwall at its peak - in August. Our Summer Gin is crafted from early summer botanicals as the seasons change - so an August theme would mean something entirely different.

After many long walks picking botanicals, I chose to focus on elderflower, meadowsweet and rose petals, supported by others including sweet clover and raspberry. Together, the gin they create features an inviting mix of floral and berry, which evolve into sumptuous elderflower and rose. The finish is long and complex.

On those same walks I mused about what to call this new gin. After seeing it crop up in a few places, I settled on ‘Morva’ - a Cornish word that means ‘a place by the sea’. Together the name and the flavour capture everything I love about Cornwall in August.

After an incredible launch in August 2022, Morva has been awarded and enjoyed by many. I can’t wait for you all to taste it too.

Next time we’ll talk about what you’ll have been waiting for - serves and cocktails.
